Bill’s guide to the area

Go explore. Then come home to the quiet.

Not a tourism brochure — my personal, opinionated list of what’s actually worth your time around Schuyler and southern Albemarle County.

First things first

Scottsville: your supply run

About 15–20 minutes down Route 6. Don’t be fooled by the strip on the way in — that’s not Scottsville. Keep going to Route 20, head south, and you’ll hit real Main Street: quaint shops, eateries, bakeries, and the mighty James River with a public boat launch.

W.F. Paulett Ace Hardware

Worth a stop — it isn’t your typical hardware store.

Next to the Scottsville Fire Dept. Since it’s rural, it has everything.

127 Irish Rd, Scottsville · (434) 286-2521

Food Lion + ABC Store

Groceries and liquor in one strip.

Stock the cabin kitchen here — there’s a Subway too, if for some reason you want fast food.

Food Lion: 198 Scottsville Center · (434) 286-2967 — ABC Store next door in Village Square

River Town Antiques

Sometimes they even have some cool stuff.

Worth a browse just off Main Street.

190 Scottsville Ctr · (434) 286-7800

See

Walton’s Mountain Museum

Very close to the cabin — and yes, that Waltons.

James Monroe’s home (formerly Ash Lawn–Highland), right by Monticello. Easy to pair them.

And the best part of the area guide? It’s in the cabin. Every guest gets the full visitor’s booklet — with the on-property secrets we don’t publish: the waterfall soak pool, the marked trailheads, the pond. Some things you have to earn by showing up.

H’Owl at the Moon Farm

Plan the days. We’ll handle the nights.
